What Will Be the Most Popular Wedding Trends for 2007?
Wedding trends come and go, but brides and grooms always want to be on top of the latest and greatest ones. It makes sense - everyone wants their wedding to feel fresh and up-to-date. If you're getting married in 2007, here are my predictions for what will be hot and new this year.
- Glamorous WeddingsGlamour is definitely the word of the year, and the word that defines the other top wedding trends for 2007. This year will no longer be a time for casual gatherings, but instead, brides and grooms will focus on elegant wedding accessories and sophisticated soirees.
- Wedding Dress Details During the wedding ceremony, guests are primarily looking at the couple’s backs and rings exchange moment. So it makes sense that brides are adding embellishment to their dresses, including special embroidery gloves, monograms, lace-backed veils, or Bridal Faux Fur Wraps in Winter.
- Bold Jewel Tone Colors Taking a departure from the ubiquitous pastel blue and chocolate brown that were so popular in 2006, brides and grooms are now seeking bolder statements with bold jewel tone wedding colors, including rich purples, golds, oranges, and reds.
- Square Tables A square-shaped table not only facilitates conversation better than a rectangular table or a large round one, but it also gives a room a clean modern look. Wedding planners and designers love square tables, because they are great canvases for printed table runners, interesting floral arrangements, and rows of elegant pillar candles.
- It’s Not the Me Generation Anymore. Couples are realizing how fortunate they are to have elaborate weddings, and are looking for ways to give back. You’ll see more environmentally- friendly weddings, with invitations made from recycled paper, natural settings, and pesticide-free flowers. But you’ll also see more wedding receptions that feature organic, sustainably-raised, and local food. And the trend of couples giving charitable donations instead of favors will grow even more popular. With the rising numbers of second-weddings and later-in-life weddings, we’ll also see more of the bride and groom asking for charitable donations in lieu of presents.
- Destination Weddings in Italy Even though we barely saw much of Katie and Tom’s wedding, the media attention highlighted the beautiful country and the historic places where a couple can get married. Destination weddings in general are on the rise, but we’ll see a particular trend of destination weddings in Italy.
- Lace, Embroidery, and Other Embellishments In fitting with the trend towards more glamorous weddings, brides are seeking dresses with more lace, beading, embroidery, and other embellishments. But you’ll also see this trend extended into other areas of the wedding, including lace table runners, beads and jewels in flower arrangements, lace bands around programs, invitations and menus, and embroidered chair covers.
- SleevesDon’t worry, the trend isn’t towards totally covered-up monkish attire. In keeping with the lace trend, you’ll see more dainty cap sleeves, lace shrugs, and off-the-shoulder looks. Strapless will still be big, but brides seeking alternatives will now have more choices.
- Cocktail Hour EntertainmentThe cocktail hour has traditionally taken a backseat to the more interesting parts of a wedding. The couple and their family are usually off taking photographs, and guests are trying to get to know each other. But now couples are looking to spice up the hour by introducing entertainers during the cocktail hour. Most will simply hire different musicians to create a more club-like atmosphere in the cocktail hour, and get the party started a little earlier. More adventurous couples might seek to continue their wedding theme with flamenco dancers, fire-eaters, fortune-tellers, or impersonators.
- More Unusual Wedding LocationsSure the country club is nice, and that wedding hall will probably help you create a lovely wedding. But for a more memorable impression, without the travel and logistics of a destination wedding, couples are seeking unusual wedding locations such as zoos, aquariums, castles, and film studios, and barns.
